Agriculture Policy Division (APD)

  • Analyze emerging policy issues and its impact (input/output costs, farm credit, taxes, subsidies, monopolies and cartels, etc)
  • Suggest measures for sectoral improvement under the prevailing scenario and recommend future strategies for enhancing production and productivity to make agriculture profitable, competitive, and sustainable.
  • Study the terms of trade for agriculture vis-à-vis other sectors of the economy.
  • Undertake farm economic analysis with a view to determining rational utilization of land, water and other farm resources.
  • Publish Pakistan Journal of Agricultural Economics (PJAE)

 

 

Agriculture Trade Division (ATD)

  • WTO related matters and all other issues impacting on the trade of farm outputs and inputs.
  • Bilateral, regional and multilateral agricultural trade issues.
  • Analysis of supply and demand of agriculture commodities and of value chain.
  • Study the terms of trade of agriculture viz-a-viz other sectors of economy as well as foreign trade.
  • Assess the comparative advantage and competitiveness of agricultural commodities in the world markets.
  • Share information with stakeholders on need basis.

 

 

Production Economics Division (PED)

  • Analyze micro economic issues relating to the crop production, processing and consumption.
  • Examine the economics of different crops production and protection technologies
  • Identify barriers in attaining higher productivity in different farm enterprises and suggest remedial measures.
  • Conduct studies on post-harvest crop losses, marketing margins, incidentals and product recovery.
  • Maintaining a data bank, collecting crop estimates from provinces to release at national level and provide the required data/information to other Divisions of API.
  • Conduct surveys and deal with secondary data.

 

 

Director (Coordination.)

  • Function under the direction of the Director General, API. 
  • Effect secretariat coordination of all professional and technical work of the API. 
  • Make all arrangements for the convening and conduct of technical meetings of the API, and other committees or sub-committees set up by the API, including the issue of notices, agenda, and working papers for the meetings, recording of proceedings, and getting them approved by the DG, API and the follow-up and review of the decisions taken at these meetings.                   
  • Exercise overall supervision of the library of the API and of matters relating to the printing and publication of the API's reports, documents, etc and
  • Perform such other duties and exercise such other powers as may be assigned or delegated to him by the API in writing from time to time.

 

IT Division

  • To prepare system design for the processing and analysis of survey data to satisfy research and technical needs of API 
  • To chalk out component programmes within the system design for the efficient and objective processing of data per tabulation/research plan provided by the concerned Research Division. 
  • Supervise data entry as per editing instruction given by the concerned division. 
  • Develop computer programme to edit and clean the data. 
  • To train the computer programmers and supervise the data processing activities. 
  • To develop quick data retrieval system to provide updated and comprehensive data base ready for technical work and or price policy papers. 
  • To chalk out component programmers for the system design developed for the survey. 
  • To continuously update the data retrieval under the supervision of system analysis as per needs of various Research divisions of API.
